Situated on Enmore road, in the heart of the Inner West, Hartsyard is run by experienced chefs and partners in life, Dorothy Lee and Jarrod Walsh. The menu boasts a delicious mix of modern Australian and Asian inspired dishes featuring fresh, seasonal produce along with carefully crafted cocktails and exclusively Aussie wines.  

How long have you been a part of the Inner West community?

We have been living and working in the Inner West for over 3 years now. 

What’s your favourite thing about the Inner West?

Our favourite thing about the Inner West is that it holds so many different cultures and everybody seems so laid back and friendly which adds to community spirits.

What do you think makes this community so special?

It is a very close community compared to others we have lived in before. Everybody seems to take pride in living in the inner west and all want the best for each other. You always see fundraisers in the area and the annual Newtown festival as well. These are very good examples of how people gather together to do something good and give back to the community.

What are some of your favourite places to visit in the Inner West (cafes, restaurants, parks, shops, pubs/bars, etc)?  

We love to take our dogs to Camperdown Memorial Rest Park on a sunny day. For coffee, we always go to Grace and Taylor, it is hands down the best coffee in Inner West! We love to grab a quick bite at the Continental Deli, alternatively we visit Thai Pathong at least once a week for dinner. And we are definitely a regular at Young Henrys Brewery. These places are the best and what makes Inner West so fun for us to live in. I (Dorothy) also love to shop at U–turn, second-hand clothes shopping is one of the best attractions in Inner West!  

Where do you get your inspiration from?  

Most of our inspiration comes from our own experiences working in various restaurants in Sydney. Every year we take quite a long holiday to different countries to explore different restaurants and cultures and gather ideas to bring home and rework into the restaurant. We also go camping quite a lot and love to cook outside with fire which you can definitely feel on the menu as majority of our items are cooked with different types of wood over the flame.  

Why did you choose the inner west as the home for your venue?  

Because we feel like our style of restaurant fits in with the Inner West neighbourhood vibe and wanted to do something that was quite approachable within the community. 

What is your favourite thing to cook at home?   

Our go to cook at home dish would be stir-fried turkey mince, tofu, heaps of Asian greens and broccoli seasoned with oyster sauce and light soy. It’s a great end of week cleanse and energy booster.
