AMP Capital Shopping Centres has commenced a redevelopment of Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre, which will take place over three stages.
With support from local council, a submission was made to the Department of Planning and Environment for a modification to the consent. The modification split stage one into stages 1A and 1B.
Stage 1A involves landscaping and facade works in the Victoria Road entry garden around the heritage Mill House (Centre Management). The new community space will encompass seating for customers and retail staff, along with a community garden and a space for families to play and relax in the sun. Works are due to be completed in early 2017.
Stage 1B encompasses the Smidmore Street site. It will include a new retail building of approximately 10,000 square metres, with an additional supermarket, large format store, food market and additional specialty retail stores, as well as additional parking above the retail building.
Stage 2 encompass works to the existing centre. This is seen as a longer term opportunity.
